How Recycling Can Help Protect the Ocean
Posted on July 25th, 2017 by Residential Waste Systems
Shark Week is here — and as we all sit down to learn more about these powerful creatures, we should also make sure that we are doing everything that we can to protect them and the oceans that they live in. Here are just a few of the ways that you can help save the ocean.
How To Protect the Ocean:
- RECYCLE – One of the best things that you can do for the environment is to be conscious of how you are disposing of your trash. Not only does this protect our oceans, but it protects our resources (we don’t need to harvest new materials that lead to higher water temperatures), we can protect wildlife from hazardous waste like oil, and we keep animals from accidentally ingesting or becoming entangled in plastic. Be sure to recycle all empty bottles and cans.
- Cut Back On Using Plastics – Instead of relying on plastic, disposable water bottles — choose reusable options, instead. This will help you cut back on waste — and leave our oceans with less debris. Did you know that plastics in our oceans kill thousands of marine animals each year?
- Keep Your Local Beaches Clean – Make sure that you pick up after yourself (and others) at the beach. By keeping our local beaches clean, you can prevent trash from getting swept away to sea.
