How to Repurpose School Supplies for the Summer

Recycling service trumbull ct | recycling service monroe ct | Residential Waste SystemsSchool is out for summer, but that doesn’t mean that you need to toss all of your child’s old supplies! With a little creativity, you can upcycle your supplies and make your home a little bit more eco-friendly.  Here are a few craft ideas that will help keep your kids busy through the summer months.

4 Ways to Re-Purpose Old Supplies:

  1. Turn Your Pencil Box Into a Travel Case – Clean out your old pencil boxes and cases! These containers are perfect for holding supplies for your child’s next sleepover or for summer vacation.
  2. Create Melted Crayon Art – Have a bunch of leftover, half-used crayons?  Try making melted crayon art! Take the wrappers off of your crayons, lay them out along the top of a canvas, and hot glue each one down. After the crayons are secure, you can use a hair dryer or heating tool to melt the crayons and create your new piece of art.
  3. Make Your Own Journal or Scrapbook – If you have a leftover composition or spiral notebook, take out the used pages and start fresh with your own journal. Decorate the journal and make it your own.
  4. Get Crafty with Paper Mache – Before you throw out your old school papers, turn them into a paper mache project.  If paper mache isn’t your thing, don’t forget to recycle them!

If you have any leftover supplies that you can’t re-use or re-purpose, don’t forget to check to see if they are recyclable!  If you have any questions about your residential trash pickup or the recycling services we offer at Residential Waste System, give our office a call at 203-334-1660.
