Make Back-to-School Season Eco-Friendly This Year

recycling service trumbull ct | residential waste systemsBack-to-School season is right around the corner! For busy families with kids this means that it’s time to stock up on paper, pens notebooks and new clothes. Before you head out to the stores — here are a few tips that will help make your back-to-school season a little bit more eco-friendly.

Eco-Friendly Tips:

  • Use a Lunch Box – Instead of brown bagging it, use a reusable lunch box. This is a great way to make your lunch period more eco-friendly (and healthy).  As an added bonus, parents will save on cafeteria lunches!
  • Buy Local – When packing lunch, choose produce that is grown locally!  Not only will you be helping the environment, you’ll be supporting local businesses, too!
  • Re-Use What You Can – We all love back-to-school shopping, but don’t be afraid to reuse some of last year’s favorites. Re-using is one of the best ways to reduce your environmental impact. Save your favorite school outfits, last year’s barely used pencils, and binders that are still in good condition.
  • Choose Recycled Products – Many notebooks, paper, pencils and folders are made from recycled materials. Take a look at the labels before making your back-to-school purchases. You should also look for the FSC label to choose products that are made without harming the rainforest.
  • Take the Bus – Public transportation can help reduce your carbon footprint. Let your kids take the bus instead of dropping them off yourself. If your children are older, biking is also a great way to make school transportation eco-friendly.
