How to Live With Less Clutter

iStock_000014544928_LargeThe change in seasons is the perfect time to go through your old things.  As a general rule of thumb, if you haven’t worn it in a year, you should probably get rid of it!  However, your cleaning habits should apply to more than just donating old clothes!  Here are a few tips to help you become a minimalist and live with less this fall.

How to Live With Less:

  • Clothes – Start by going through your clothes.  According to many statistics, we only wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time.  Go through your closet and remove all unused clothing.  This will leave your closet feeling lighter and make your mornings less stressful.
  • Toys – If you have children, it’s likely that your home sometimes feels like it’s covered in toys.  If you have broken toys or toys that your kids no longer play with (or outgrew), then it’s time to get rid of them. Whether you are recycling, donating, or throwing them away, toys are an important part of your fall purge.
  • Books – Books can be a great way to curl up and relax at the end of a long day, but if you have books that you no longer read or books that your kids have outgrown, it may be time to go through and determine which books are worth keeping around the home.
  • Junk Mail – One thing we can probably all agree on is cutting back on junk mail.  Avoid letting it clutter around your home by putting it int he recycling bin immediately after you’ve gone through your mail.  You can also remove your name from mailing lists you no longer wish to be a part of.
