Throw An Eco-Friendly Memorial Day Weekend BBQ
Posted on May 22nd, 2017 by Residential Waste Systems
Memorial Day is the unofficial kick off to summer — and BBQ season! If you plan on grilling with friends and family this weekend, try to make your outdoor festivities a little bit more “green.” Here are a few tips to help you celebrate an eco-friendly Memorial Day.
Eco-Friendly BBQ Tips:
- Avoid Disposables – When possible, avoid using disposable plates, forks, spoons, knives and cups. Instead, opt for reusable cookware that you can wash after!
- Recycle Empty Bottles – If you plan on serving soda or alcoholic beverages at your BBQ, make recycling easy for your guests. Place a designated bin where they can put empty cans and bottles.
- Shop Locally – Now that the weather is warming up, head down to a local farmer’s market to pick up fruits and vegetables for your BBQ. Not only will they taste better, it’s also great to support local businesses.
- Plan In Advance – Know how many people are coming to your party beforehand so that you can plan the amount of food that you will need ahead of time. Of course, if you do have a ton of leftovers, save them in the fridge and eat them for lunch the next day!
