Posted on May 16th, 2017 by Residential Waste Systems
Fortunately, there are ways to combat and prevent these smells at home. Below, we’ve listed a few tips to help you keep your garbage can from smelling — inside and out.
How to Deodorize Your Garbage:
- Take Preventative Measures with Baking Soda – A great way to prevent odors in your trash can is by sprinkling some baking soda directly into the can. Just like baking soda absorbs odors in your fridge, it will absorb odors in your garbage can.
- Disinfect with Bleach – For tough germs and odors, you’ll want to pull out the bleach. Although bleach itself has a very strong odor, it will kill any germs that may be adding to your smelly trash can.
- Have a Cat? Put Some Litter in the Can – Cat litter can help keep moisture and odors from invading your home. Add a some cat litter to the bottom of your can! After a week or when the litter becomes damp, dump it out!
- Clean Out Your Outdoor Can – Get down and dirty and clean out your trash can. Squirt in some dish soap and use your garden hose to spray it down. Empty the water — rinse and repeat as needed.
